When Jackson Systems’ customers had a problem, the company responded, and made money in the process. Jackson Systems, an Indianapolis-based manufacturer and distributor of HVAC controls, is an innovative company always eager to listen and help its customers who are HVAC contractors worldwide.
Its strategic position is to be the direct choice for simple controls, offering multiple direct sales channels and focusing on the simplest, highest quality products with strong support that responds directly to the contractors' challenges and needs.
Recently, a customer contacted the company seeking a solution to a growing problem -- theft of residential and commercial air conditioning units. Rising global demand for copper continues to keep prices soaring. The copper found in air conditioning condensing units is uninsulated and of a high grade. Its high resale value on the scrap market attracts thieves. Also, condensing units are particularly vulnerable to theft because typically they are not located in a highly visible area.
“When a theft occurs at a residence, it’s an inconvenience because your insurance will cover it,” notes CEO Thomas Jackson. “But when it happens at a commercial facility it’s a huge deal because the facility may have to be shut down while repairs are being made, costing the company hundreds of thousands of dollars in lost production. He noted that the recent theft of copper at Gleaner’s food bank in Indianapolis caused the spoilage of nearly $500,000 worth of food.”
Within days after receiving the customer’s request, Jackson Systems developed and introduced the Warning Watchdog into the market. It was developed by Ron E. Jackson, company founder and now a full-time inventor specializing in the design of controls and tools. The Warning Watchdog is an alarm system that monitors individual air conditioning units and immediately detects voltage interruption and refrigerant loss. When activated, the Warning Watchdog sounds an extremely loud siren and can trigger an alarm, phone dialer or other security device. The systems are available in both hardwired and wireless models. Wireless Watchdog will save end users thousands of dollars in replacement costs and has created an additional revenue stream for Jackson Systems’ HVAC contractor customers. “Several contractors have called to say the Warning Watchdog has prevented thefts,” reports CEO Jackson.
