The Sullivan Corporation

"Be prepared, and be ready to shift and move as the need arises."

A non-competition clause from a former partnership mandated that The Sullivan Corporation, a general contractor and construction management company, could do no business within 150 miles of Indianapolis. So for the first three years, Terence Sullivan and his crew spent the majority of their days on the road, sleeping at rest stops and doing all the accounting work in the front seats of their trucks. After four well-traveled years, the company finally had a place to hang its hat when it opened an office in Noblesville.

When a downturn in the retail business hit, the company shrunk from 20 employees to five and had to invest all its reserves in a new job-estimating system. The software turned out to be a fortunate and forward-thinking investment, as the corporation began to grow again. The Sullivan Corporation now does business with such national chains as Eddie Bauer, Gateway, Warner Brothers and Toys "R" Us.

Taking care of employees has become a focus for the company. Fitness centers are built on job sites, so field employees have something to do during their off hours-encouraging health and personal wellness in all employees. The company also supports its local community by donating to the Children's Wish Fund.

Meeting the ever-evolving challenges of the construction industry, The Sullivan Corporation continues to thrive and even added a satellite office in Scottsdale, Arizona, in 2000.
